Recording Iplayer

Do you live in the UK? If so, you probably already know that you're are able to watch pretty much all BBC TV shows online via their 'iPlayer' video streams.

You can also download these TV shows from the iPlayer to watch later - which is just great! What's not so great is that if you download an iPlayer video, it has a built in 'self destruct' mechanism so it won't play after 30 days. Not so great now, eh?

Its a shame, as most of us would love to download and keep an archive of certain programs on iPlayer - Top Gear, Match of The Day or the annual coverage of the Glastonbury Festival for example.

So how do we download a copy that won't self destruct? Simple! We record the video as it plays in iPlayer and keep it on our PC to watch whenever we want in the future!

Thankfully, there is a very easy straightforward way to record online tv shows from video streamers like iPlayer, cnn, abc, channel 4, youtube - in fact literally ANY video online can be recorded with just one simple easy to use piece of software.

I tried over 12 pieces of software over the period of 2 months before I finally found an easy way to record online tv - now this piece of software makes it so easy my friends have nicknamed me "iPlayer"! ;)

So what is this amazing software that now means I have a huge archive of my favourite shows in great quality stored on my PC and ready to watch any time I like? Well, after a lot of searching (and I mean a LOT over a couple of months in the evenings), I found a company called Applian Technology.

They do a suite of software applications called the Replay Capture Suite, or you can actually get just the Replay Capture app on its own. The suite of software is best though, as its much cheaper to buy this way - and, as a bonus you get the capabilities of changing the file type of your recording - so you can downsize it, convert it and watch on your iPod!
